Showers are part of every household’s bathroom. Across the world, most people would prefer to have a shower than the sponge bath and fully-immersed bathing and aside from that the average time spent in the shower is eight minutes. Also it is very much beneficial to a person’s wellbeing because it can provide a relief from depression, relieves stress, promotes muscular recovery from soreness, helps in losing weight, promotes blood circulation and immunity, improves hair and skin, and improves alertness. The only problem with that is the water pressure in the house that is where the shower pump comes in to remedy that.

A shower pump increases the amount of water released from the shower head. But before buying one, there are factors that have to be considered for you to choose the right shower pump for your house. The first thing to look into is the type of heating system in the house. You will either have an unvented system, a combi boiler system, or a gravity fed system. An unvented system means that you have a hot water cylinder as a separate source. The combi boiler system is only reliant on the main pipe’s pressure as a source of hot water. The gravity fed system is commonly used by older houses and is the poorest when it comes to water pressure. If you have a gravity fed system then the next step is to check if you have negative head system or a positive head system. In a negative head system, there is a water outlet above the 600 mm which is located below the cold water tank. In a positive head system, the water outlets are at the bottom of the 600 mm line located below the cold water tank. The twin shower pump, either the positive or negative head, is good for improving the water pressure in one small bathroom to many bathrooms inside the house. In a combi boiler system you can use a whole-house pump to improve water pressure.

There are different types of shower pumps appropriate for the right heating system. The centrifugal impeller pump is effective in releasing large volumes of water but its installation can be tricky. The regenerative impeller pump releases lesser volumes of water in comparison to the centrifugal but its installation is not difficult. The negative head pump operates via pressure difference between the outlet and the pump. The positive head pump operates via water flow. The twin impeller pump is capable of pumping both hot and cold water. The singe impeller pump is only for pumping either hot or cold water
